San Marcos All Veteran’s Memorial

A group of San Marcos Veterans and community members, founded by my wife Luanne and myself, formed a committee, raised the funds, and designed the San Marcos memorial to honor any Veteran who has served or is serving honorably in the United States Armed Services with a permanent public monument.

The memorial is located at the corner of Woodland Parkway and Borden Road and is incorporated into the eastern side of Helen Bougher Park.  Phase one, including the slightly curved memorial wall of remembrance, is complete with many Veteran’s names etched on travertine tiles in three sizes. A star shaped granite fountain with cascading water element encompassed by a circular wall will be a serene feature added in phase two.

The site also includes a permanent, illuminated American Flag and several benches. Phase two will also feature five flags representing each branch of the armed services and a POW/MIA flag. There will be three bronze statues of soldiers “guarding” the memorial, scheduled for phase three.

For more information about the memorial visit the City of San Marcos website.
