Leadership in Action

A recent City-commissioned survey revealed 89 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of the quality of life in San Marcos, and 79 percent indicated that San Marcos is on the right path.

Some of the issues I am moving San Marcos forward on:

  • Parks and trails
    • Introduced Master Parks and trails plan; Ten new Parks in ten years
    • 57 Miles of trails added
  • Fiscal responsibility
    • Balanced budgets
    • Healthy cash reserves
    • No new taxes
  • Improved public services
    • Low crime rates (crime is down 19% since 2002)
    • Fast emergency response times (average of less than 5 minutes) 
    • Well maintained streets, parks, and trails
    • Opened fire station 4 in San Elijo
  • More transparency at City Hall
    • Introduced city council on television and internet
    • Introduced campaign statements and city ordinances online
    • Introduced Ethics policy
  • Veterans Memorial
    • Co-founded the citizens committee that built the first phase of All Veterans Memorial
  • Ridgeline protection
    • Supported the Protection of our ridgelines and open space. Approved by voters.
  • Traffic improvements
    • Supported advanced computerized traffic signal controls
    • Fought for Twin Oaks Valley road to be extended to San Elijo
    • Recommended that Barham drive be widened and improved
    • Recommended Senior Transportation (taxi voucher program)
  • Other accomplishments
    • Introduced Mission/Vision Statement for City Council
    • Supported Home ownership programs to assist low and middle income families
    • Introduced a cellular tower policy
